😊People with learning difficulties are very positive and open to the world. They are active and can participate in the life of the society. They have many strengths and like us - some are very patient and other are very eager to and enthusiastic. Some prefer to participate in familiar activities and other like trying something new.
Lifelong learning is essential for the development and training of our adult population. It promotes active citizens who are fully conscious of the changeable world in which we live.
🧠 Lifelong learning is completely necessary to achieve academic promotion and develop employability and soft skills. Furthermore, it has not only intellectual benefits but also mental and physical advantages as well. 🎲“Play is a crucial component of cognitive development from birth through adulthood.”
(Piaget 1962; Vygotsky 1962) Maintaining students’ engagement and reigniting their enthusiasm for learning in the classroom are probably among the main challenges we face as teachers. Games can play a crucial role in this, because they may promote a student-centred pedagogy that facilitates a more personalised learning approach. 🎮Learning through games encourages the acquisition and development of various hard and soft skills, as it stimulates problem-solving, encourages experiential learning and increases motivation. 🗣️ELA promotes game based learning, always integrating it in its training methodology with the aim to encourage and spread its use throughout Europe. 🧠 Diogo has autism and has a dream: to become a university professor. 👩🏻🍳 Violeta is 39 years old and she’s been working at Hotel Novotel Sofia in Bulgaria for over 7 years.
The team and the leadership of the hotel accept Violeta and trust her and she has been very successful in her tasks during all these years. Violeta is supported by the team of Worlds Daycare Center (Maria’s World Foundation) – she has a mentor with whom she discusses topics about her job, she also participates in the group for support for the work place and in many more activities in the Daycare center. ✨ With the appropriate support people with intellectual difficulties can work and achieve successful labor integration. The goal of Maria's World Foundation is to provide them with the appropriate support and training. 🧠 Lifelong learning is essential in our society as our adult population can improve their knowledge and skills with civic, social or labour objectives. According to this, one of the main goals of the European Union is to achieve 15% of adult participation in different training courses or studies. However, most European countries are far from this percentage, so educators must engage and motivate adults to participate and attend classes that help them improve.
Besides promoting a learner-centred approach, games provide a risk-free environment where learning takes place through repetition, failure, ongoing non-threatening feedback and accomplishment of goals.
🎮 For this reason they are considered as a major resource when it comes to training youngsters and adults with learning difficulties. 💼Any citizen should have equal rights and opportunities.
So that a citizen with a disability can reach the realization of an autonomous and social life, their insertion in the labor market must be promoted. |
💻 During the pandemic of Covid-19 different software for online communication helped the social services deliver distance program for support for people with difficulties.
Gaining computer skills is important for people with difficulties because they can communicate in a new way and have access to resources and more job opportunities. Carolina is 39 years old, and she has a vision impairment, however, this was not a barrier for her as she studied Secondary Education and finally got her degree in the centre for adult education "CEPA Teresa Enríquez" in Torrijos (Spain).
🧑🏫She had the support of all her teachers that helped her during the process. 🦴In the future, she would like to do the preparatory course for having access to university and study physiotherapy. Did you know that despite being used interchangeably, gamification and game-based learning are not the same?
🔎In fact, gamification means applying game elements and mechanics into non-game environments to engage and motivate learners while game-based learning is a teaching approach whereby learning is an outcome of playing a game itself. For a more inclusive, fair, and participatory society!

Other local successful stories
📘Gianluca Pellegrino wanted to encompass in the pages of his book "Aria sotto il mare" ("Air under the sea") the realization of his dream nurtured by his love for the immense blue expanse as well as a message of hope, strength and will of spirit. Suffering from spastic tetra paresis, he has always seen diving as his greatest dream and at the same time as an insurmountable limit. But "The iron will that comes from the purity of a dream is able to achieve what appears impossible", as written in the description of his book on Mondadori's website. Supported by his friends, he will succeed in realizing his dream, thus becoming a source of inspiration for those who fears those limits and remain stuck in their condition. In fact, Gianluca decided to tell his story to the world by publishing a book that thus becomes a sincere and direct evidence of a successful story that leads one to believe that disability is simply "an open confrontation with those who are similar to us, but see the world with different eyes". @Ariasottoilmare |
🍪Lifelong learning is essential for the development and training of the adult population in our society. It is essential for academic advancement and for developing employability and soft skills. There are a variety of activities to choose from, such as improving existing skills and knowledge or developing new skills (cooking, public speaking, etc.), acquiring artistic or sporting skills or even embarking on a new vocational course. To choose the most appropriate learning experience for them, adults need to identify their personal interests and goals.
